Colours and Shapes in Jainism

Each unit of this universe, both living and non-living, radiates an energy known as aura. Aura is energy feild that surrounds and physical body. the aura is inanimate objects is static while aura of living organism constantly changes. There are two types of leshya: Dravya lesya(Physical/atoms) and bhav leshya(psychical/conciousness). Bhav lesya is the effect of dravya lesya. page 51

In the feild of leshya every signal becomes colourful in accordance with your past and present deeds and kashay. page 52

There are two types of colours: Bright and dark/dull

sinful acts attracts black, dark blue, red yellow and white. these colours make a person negative in thought and behaviour.

someone who performs good acts attracts bright colours which results in postive personality. pg 52

Leshya (Negative attitudes)

Krishn (Black) - Lack of self-descipline, anger, cruelty, lack of compassion and lack of sensual control (page 72)

Neel (Blue)- Jealousy, ignorance, deceit, sensual desires, aggression and craving for food (page 72)

Kapot (Grey)- crookedness, hiding one's flaws, possessiveness, false spiritual beliefs, revealing other's secrets and speaking badly of them. (page 72)

Leshya (Positive attitudes)

The colour of tejo leshya is the colour of the rising sun. Red is constructive colour. It is the source of activity, strength, radiant, glory and alertness. when you activate your centre of intuition you can see the colour of tejo in this area. The old habits, developed due to krishn, neel and kapot leshya becomes ineffective in the presence of the bright red of tejo leshya. (page 113)

Padma leshya is bright yellow. the jain scripture say that padm leshya increases our peace of mind and inner bliss. it develops the power of int

uition(realization or experinece of self. it controls illogical and irrational thinking. At physical level, yellow helps strengthen the brain and nervous system. (page 113)

The language of leshya is in terms of a straight line. page 62

Shape

There are thirteen psychic centres (Chaitanya kendra) in the body where consciousness is intense. Until the higher awareness is awakened, all psychic centres have inauspicious shapes like that of the chameleon. when the centres are awakened by meditation, our inner consciousness gets purified and the inauspicious shape or pattern gets changed and becomes auspicious. (page 79)

According to jain acharya, there are many more auspicious shapes formed in the body in addition to kamal and chakras. they are as follow:

Swastik: Signifies peace and well being

Nandyavark: indicates nine types of material, mental , physical and spiritual wealth and treasure

Kalash: Signifies wisdom and fullness (page 79)
