Festival Of Fast Making (Prototyping)

Making Rapid Material Ideas

The first brief of the course was to tell our stories through making. Expressing our stories is tricky when you are in the midst of building your narrative in a new place with new people. That's how the start of the project felt—overwhelming because of so much new things happening. Since the brief was so open, it felt both confusing and better at the same time. But all of this only stays until you start making. Once I started exploring and working with materials, ideas began to flow. It felt natural and normal. It was no longer overwhelming because crafting connected me with my creative side that I know very well. This was comforting in its own way.

The overarching theme was reimagine everyday objects.

1. Desk Accessories Kit

(a)

I've prototyped a desk accessory kit(a,b) that draws inspiration from

(b)

Alon Razgour's two-dimensional steel designs(c,d).

(c) (d)

Much like his work, I've used a perforation technique to create this cardboard(metal) sheet design (e,f,g) and it's case . The case has a magnet, and the 2D sheet designs attaches to this magnet. Users can easily take out any design they like and turn it into a practical desk accessory.

I wanted to merge art with functionality, and this concept achieves that. It offers both an aesthetic appeal and practical utility for customizing one's desk setup.

2. How Others See You (Mirror)

This is a mirror prototype that allows individuals to see themselves as others see them. Three blank sections are designated to be spaces for different types of mirrors.

This approach provides three different perspectives: a zoomed-in view, a zoomed-out perspective, and a view that simulates how one would appear to an observer. This concept not only addresses self-perception but also enhances our understanding of how others perceive us. It can be useful for personal grooming, self-confidence, and self-improvement. By offering multiple viewpoints, this mirror concept encourages self-reflection and empowers individuals to make more informed decisions about their appearance.

3. Mess-free Confetti

I've created a confetti product prototype, and what's different about it is that it's designed to minimize the post-party mess. Each piece of confetti is attached to an outer shell, which makes it super easy for users to collect all the confetti without scattering it all over the place. This way, we can keep the fun without worrying about the cleanup.

4 & 5. Card Holders

Category: 1 thing made from found or reclaimed material

Category: 1 thing made in one material only - no glues or fixings in other materials

I've prototyped two card holder, and each has its unique qualities. The first one is crafted from a single material, which is a spring. Because of the spring's stretchability, it effectively keeps the cards secure while allowing them to expand when the user wants to view each card. The second prototype, in contrast, is made from natural materials, giving it an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Despite its natural look, it still performs the card-holding function efficiently. I aimed to combine functionality and aesthetics in these designs. These products were the result of experimenting with various materials without a specific end goal in mind.

6. Tactile Footwear

Category: 1 modification

This product is inspired by a 3D pin art sensory toy that employs lots of sticks to create a tactile representation of what's at the back. Despite many limitations, the concept aims to actively involve individuals in the grounding process and foster a connection with nature. Various materials at the base attempts to convey different sensations experienced while walking. The sole incorporates multiple smooth points that interact with the bottom triggers, serving as both an acupressure and a tactile representation of what lies beneath.

7. Ceramics- Throwing

Category: 1 thing made in one material only - no glues or fixings in other materials

I let my hands guide the creative flow as I shaped the pottery, allowing the thought process to evolve organically.

8. Ceramics- model making

Category: 1 thing made in one material only - no glues or fixings in other materials

Again, I let my hands lead the way as I was making this jewellery stand, allowing the creative process to unfold naturally.

9. Halloween-themed decorations

Category: 1 mend or fix

I started by gathering some leaves and playing around with them to see what I could come up with. As I was exploring, I recalled the simple joy of peeling off the dried glue imprints of my palm from my childhood. So, I tried that on the leaves, but as I peeled off the dried imprints, it started tearing in some spots. That got me thinking about how to fix it. Since I wanted to stick to natural materials, I decided to use sugar wax to patch up the torn parts. And that's how these became Halloween decorations.

10. Two-way Chair

The inspiration for this chair came while observing Clothes Hanger Connector Hooks.

I was fidgeting with it when I imagined a miniature human sitting on it in two different ways. thats how It became a two-way chair that can be used in two different ways by simply adjusting its angle.
